What Formal Validation Actually Means

4. Who Owns the Account?

The most critical vulnerability in wire transfers is the payee's name. A scammer might send you an invoice with a perfectly valid IBAN that belongs to them, while claiming it belongs to your supplier. Mathematical validation only checks numbers; it cannot match the IBAN to a person's name.

System Verification: The Bank's Responsibility
