What is the difference between Mbps and MB/s?
Mbps (Megabits per second) is typically the unit used by internet service providers. MB/s (Megabytes per second) is the download speed per second you see in your browser when downloading a file. Since 1 Byte is 8 bits, an internet connection with an 8 Mbps speed can download a maximum of 1 MB (MB/s) of a file per second.
Why might my actual speed differ from the calculated one?
Current congestion on your network, distance to the modem, signal quality if using Wi-Fi, server download/upload restrictions, or data consumption of other applications running in the background can affect your actual speed.
Is download and upload speed always the same?
In most home internet packages (ADSL/VDSL), the download speed is much higher than the upload speed (Asymmetric connection). In fiber infrastructures or symmetric packages, these speeds can be equal to each other.
